You've met the young jay before, but excuse me for posting yet more pictures of him as he really is so adorable.
The young robin is also very photogenic. He used to try and do a hummingbird impression, hovering in mid air to peck at the fat balls, but now he's learned to stand on a handy twig. He is just coming into his adult plumage and losing his baby chick spots.
This Gatekeeper butterfly looked glorious against the yellow of the golden rod.
And here is a Small White on my lavender.

My partner spotted this teeny frog surveying the big, wide world from the edge of the container the watercress used to grow in (since removed to a larger one). I think he's grown from one of this year's tadpoles, which is great news because last year all the taddies got eaten by the fish.
This year we transferred the frogspawn to the watercress container to protect it and only released the tadpoles once they had grown legs. To get an idea of his size, just compare him with the pond skater on the lily pad.

Found this spider waiting for me in the bath (as they do). It had the biggest, chunkiest body I've ever seen on a house spider. Needless to say, it soon got relocated with the help of a glass and a postcard. I always keep a few postcards handy, just for this purpose. They're ideal - thin and stiff, so the monster can't escape.
