Small White should be called Small Yellow!

It really has been a miserable year for our butterflies and moths. I thought this was a Brimstone when I saw it in the distance, but now I realise it's a Small White as they have pale yellow undersides to their wings.

Hardly had any butterflies in the garden this year. The buddleia is normally alive with bees and flutterbys. Not so this year - both bee and butterfly numbers were right down. I've seen a couple of peacocks, one small tortoiseshell, a few whites (large and small) and that's it. The butterfly I've seen the most of this summer is the Gatekeeper and I think it's the same one I keep seeing. Not seen many ladybirds either, not hedgehogs. Hope it's just the bad weather and not something more sinister.

I hardly saw any ladybirds, either. Not like previous years when our cherry tree was covered in them. Not a single hedgehog, either. Very worrying.
